The main factor when using a tipping trailer to be mindful of is the unladen weight (empty weight of the trailer) and Maximum gross weight (MGW, heaviest weight of the load and trailer combined). These figures indicate the weight of the trailer empty and the maximum carrying capacity – including the trailer.
The payload is the maximum load weight the trailer can carry. If it is not published, it is simply the MGW minus the unladen weight.
In addition to the weight that the trailer can hold, it is essential you ensure that your towing vehicle is capable of pulling the MGW or knowing your weight limits. They are a more versatile tipping trailer by easily changing the direction of tipping from left to right as well as standard rear tip. This is a great function for emptying the trailer with restricted access and the ability to tip is required. For instance in tighter driveways, or delivering a load where side unloading is necessary. In this case with a rear tipper, this would need to be manually shovelled off the trailer. However with a three way tipper, the job is completed in seconds!
