Subject: corral fence recommendations?
South Central Kansas, Harper County
In the process of "restoring" some badly depleted corral fences. My son wants to go back with all continuous fence panels, pipe posts, etc. Easy for him to say, as he doesn't have to pay the bills! (lol) I have enough pipe and some older panels I will probably utilize, but will probably have to purchase some new pipe panels. Doing some figuring today, and will have enough funds to fix my holding and load out areas as stout as I want them, but not enough cash to go around the whole corral. Looking for different options for the exterior of the corral. The old existing structure has good 20 ft wire panels on them, the old railroad ties are just rotted off in several places. Could a person have an acceptable enclosure by using pipe posts, with a top rail, then using the old wire panels? I think I have seen some pens like this before, but I haven't found any on the internet to verify what they would look like, or have talked to anyone who has a setup like that. How would a person attach the wire panels to the pipe, being galvanized type coatings, would they weld? Any more suggestions, would sure be appreciated!Posted 12/21/2010 19:25 (#1499310 - in reply to #1499141)

I've seen a lot of what your are describing with the wire panels. It works, and they are usually welded to the pipe. Wouldn't hurt to have an extra pipe rail about halfway down. Cattle pushing on the panels can sure bend them up. Make sure the wire panels holes are big enough you can step in them to climb across. Was at a place just a couple weeks ago they used panels with 4" X 4" squares and I couldn't get a foothold to climb across. Was very aggravating. Build it once and forget it. Make sure good posts, one 2 7/8 oil pipe on top, 2 guard rail s spaced out and you are good for 30 years.
