Impact crushers produce high-quality end products efficiently

Impact crushers are named after the method they use in reducing larger blocks of rocks to smaller grain sizes. As the name suggests, an impact crusher accelerates the feed material to high speed and then flings the fast-moving rocks against the walls of the crushing chamber and each other. This collision, impact, causes the stones to break down to smaller sizes.

The range of impact crushers consists of stationary impacts crushers presented on this page, mobile impact crushers, and portable impact crushers.

Impact crushers, or impactors as they are also called, are generally divided into two main technologies. The conventional type has horizontal shaft configuration, and for that reason it is known as a horizontal shaft impact crusher or shorter as HSI crusher. The other type has a centrifugal crusher with vertical shaft, and it is called a vertical shaft impact crusher or VSI crusher.

Horizontal shaft impact crushers

In conventional horizontal shaft impact crushers, the feed material is crushed by highly intensive impacts originating in the quick rotational movement of hammers or bars fixed to the crusher’s rotor. The particles produced are then further crushed inside the crusher as they collide against crusher parts and each other, producing a finer, better-shaped product.

Horizontal shaft impact crushers are available in various sizes and models, from high-capacity primary crushers to smaller machines.

Our family of horizontal shaft impact crushers is Nordberg® NP Series™ consisting of 8 different crusher models varying in size and features. These crushers are used in aggregates production, mining operations as well as in recycling applications, normally as stationary crushers. However, some models are also available as mobile or portable versions.

Vertical shaft impact crushers

Vertical shaft impact crushers take the full advantage of so-called rock-on-rock crushing process. In vertical shaft impact crushers, the crushable material is fed through the centre of the rotor, where it is accelerated to high speed before being discharged through openings in the rotor periphery. The material is crushed as it hits of the outer body at high speed and due to rocks colliding against each other.

Vertical shaft impact crushers are generally utilized at the last stage of the crushing circuit, mostly in aggregates production and construction industry, but also preparing material feed for grinding mills in mining operations.

The family of vertical shaft impact crushers is Barmac® B Series™ which includes three crusher models. All these models are available as stationary units, and some also as portable or mobile versions.
