Yunnan Province has pushed its installed renewable energy capacity past 60 gigawatts, reaching 60.18 GW following a wave of new solar and wind projects coming online. The current total includes 43.31 GW of solar power and 16.87 GW of wind, with renewables now accounting for 38% of the province’s total installed power capacity.
With its rich green energy resources, Yunnan plays a key role in China’s “West-to-East power transmission” strategy. The province’s renewable energy potential is estimated to exceed 150 GW, making it one of the country’s most promising clean energy hubs. Renewables have now become Yunnan’s second-largest power source after hydropower, providing strong support for both energy security and the region’s low-carbon transition.
