The use of galvanized or stainless steel avoids the rust problems associated with normal steel products. To make galvanized steel components, manufacturers immerse normal steel products in a bath of molten zinc. The zinc reacts with the steel and forms a noncorrosive coating. To make stainless steel products, manufacturers add about ten percent chromium to steel.

Although galvanized steel products are made from normal steel and can be welded and formed easily, stainless steel is more expensive to produce and harder to work with. While offering better performance because the entire piece is corrosion resistant rather than just the coating, stainless steel is considerably more expensive.
