Is it bad to run a monitor at max brightness?

27 Nov.,2023

I wouldn't say it's bad, but the backlight WILL have a shorter lifespan as a result of being run at high brightness. Whether that is a practical issue to you or not is another matter.

I can't imagine running my monitors constantly at highest brightness, but I can sort of relate to your description of being "outside" in games. A few times I turned up the brightness to max on my monitors to look at photographs I have taken, and it sometimes "seems" more immersive because I can "feel" the overpowering brightness of the sun in the photos. However, if I looked at my screen for any length of time like that, my eyes would start to hurt. That said, if you properly calibrate your monitor and run it at a moderate brightness, you can still get this feeling. I experience it quite often in games when I go outside, or fly around in space and see a star emerge from behind the planet, etc.

I guess the only real worries are reduced monitor lifespan and potential eyestrain/headaches as a result of the too-bright screen.
