Chiko prefers to eat the cantaloupe seeds rather than the fruit!
Anyone had any success freezing cantaloupe...i’m Not a melon fan myself...so even half a one can go off before Chiko has finished it / ignored it / thrown in on the floor!

I only keep our cantaloupe for a week, then I throw them away. As with all our ripe fruit, they go straight into the fridge, any fruit that is not fully ripen is left out at room temperature to ripen before placing into the fridge. Yes including the bananas. Yes putting bananas in the fridge makes them go brown/black, but that is just the outside skin that go brown, the inside will stay fresher for longer.

I feed our birds fruit every other day (veg on the other day), I first slice off one end of the melon which is discarded and then I slice off a second piece about 5 to 10 mm thick. It's this second slice that I'll use for the birds. The rest of the melon is wrapped up in cling film and place into the fridge. Next time I remove the melon to give to the birds, I always first slice off the melon where I last cut it and discard this, it tends to go a bit funny where I last cut it from and then I cut them a second more fresher slice to give to them, again I wrap the remainder of the melon to put back into the fridge. Obviously as you slice the melon through out the week, the middle sections will be wider in diameter than the end pieces.
